What height vase looks good on a dining table?

For Everyday Dining Choose a vase that is 8–12 inches (20–30 cm) tall. Low enough that people can easily see and talk across the table. Works well with fresh flowers, dried stems, or greenery. Best for most 4–8 seat dining tables. For a Statement Centerpiece A vase can be 16–24 inches (40–60 cm) tall if it's either: Slim and narrow. Used without people dining (e.g. for staging or decoration). If you regularly eat at the table, tall arrangements can block sightlines.

Shopping for vases gets easier when you start with what you’re styling and where it’s going. For shelves and coffee tables, keep the shape lower so it doesn’t block the view. For entryways and empty corners, a taller floor vase adds height without adding clutter. Material matters too. Ceramic vases brings a grounded, matte texture that pairs well with timber, linen, and stone. If you’re deciding between shapes, think in “types”: narrow openings suit single stems and branches, wider mouths suit fuller bouquets. Styling pampas? Choose a ceramic vase with a stable base so the arrangement doesn’t feel top-heavy.

Keep it dry. Pampas is a dry grass, so don’t add water. Place it away from humidity and high-traffic areas to reduce shedding and help it keep its shape.

A floor vase is taller and designed to sit on the floor or in corners. It’s often used for branches or as a standalone statement piece.
