Stoneware is durable and opaque and known for its rustic look. Meanwhile, porcelain is highly refined, non-porous, and translucent, offering a delicate yet strong finish. Earthenware is porous and prone to chipping, typically thicker and heavier with a more casual feel. Each material offers distinct aesthetic and practical qualities.

Most dinner plates are around 10 to 11 inches (25 to 28 cm) in diameter, although sizes vary by collection. Before buying, check that the plates fit comfortably in your cupboards and dishwasher, especially if you prefer larger designs. A slightly smaller plate can also make everyday portions feel more considered without sacrificing room for the main event.
